Management Team

James Michael Dubow

Chief Executive Officer

Jim was appointed as Chief Executive Officer on 1 April 2015.

Jim co-heads Alvarez & Marsal’s (A&M’s) Asian practice in Hong Kong.  With over 20 years of experience leading companies and their stakeholders through periods of change, including more than a decade in Asia, he is highly focused on increasing stakeholder value.  His areas of expertise include: executive management, M&A, capital markets, financial restructuring, operational turnarounds, post-merger integration and business plan development and evaluation.  He has worked across a wide range of industries including banking, healthcare, energy and retail.

Jim joined A&M in the U.S., where he worked on corporate turnarounds.  Subsequently, he was a founding member of A&M China, where he assisted companies with performance improvement and business turnaround.

Jim then took a five-year hiatus from A&M while serving as CFO of an energy company that develops and runs businesses across Asia, principally in China, Taiwan and Korea.  He assisted the company with its growth strategy following its acquisition by a private equity consortium, raised several rounds of syndicated and project debt, prepared the company for listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, assisted with the 100 percent equity sale to a major state-owned corporation in China and spent the last year leading the financial function while assisting the new Chinese parent company with its strategic plans and post-merger integration.

Since returning to A&M in 2012, Jim has primarily been assisting private equity sponsors with the operating turnarounds of their portfolio companies, including taking interim management positions where required.

Jim earned a bachelor’s degree in history, with an emphasis on China, from the University of California, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in business administration, with a concentration in finance, from the NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business.  He is fluent in written and spoken Mandarin having studied the language for more than 25 years.
